A Publishing Milestone (for us, at least)
Today marks the official publication day for Milestone Documents in American History, the first title to be published under the Schlager Group banner. You might think we are doing somersaults in the office today, but alas our staff members are too busy with their many other projects to do more than throw up a brief, hearty cheer. Not to worry, though: we had a grand party to celebrate the publication a few days ago at Tillman’s Roadhouse in Dallas’s Bishop Arts district.
In any event, the books are in the warehouse, and customers who pre-ordered the set through Salem Press will be receiving their books in the near future. Now comes the wait for reviews–a crucial event for any volume, but especially so for a title that is launching a new series and is the first effort from a fledgling publisher. While we bide our time in advance of the reviews, work continues on our 2nd title, Milestone Documents of American Leaders, and on the companion Web site for the series, www.MilestoneDocuments.com.
Next week Marcia Merryman-Means and I will be in New York City for some meetings, including with Paul Finkelman, who is the executive editor for the series. We’ll be seeing a Broadway show (the revivial of Gypsy starring Patti Lupone), among other things, and eating lunch at New York’s famous Katz’s Deli. Marcia and I have joked that the trip represents our chance to inhabit the role of chic publishing executive, given how unglamorous our daily routines really are. But we are bound to have fun. I’ll try to blog at least once from NYC.
